The Digestive System of the Orange Elephant Ear Sponge (Agelas clathrodes)
All sponges have very similar digestive systems. They all take in algae and micro-organisms and their cells eat them. All sponges are filter feeders and do not have organs to make a complex digestive system like the one that we have. Because of this, Sponges are considered simple organisms. To see how a sponge digests, go to the Barrel Sponge Tab under the Carrubba Tab.
